  • Mind Power

There are computers, TV's and pills,
To banish ignorance and its ills,
So more of their mind can make,
    And from life extra take.

    But as cleverer all become,
Thinking they have in life found fun,
    Wisdom does not grow,
    For it is wisdom slow.

No pills can speed it up,
    Or alter its makeup,
    But intelligence so quick,
    With strategies so slick,
    Wisdom's always left behind,
    Caught in its own bind,
And as it is so slow,
It's viewed often as a foe,
Till the day the brain runs out of luck,
    And strategies become unstuck,
Giving speed its chance our world to ....
    After which we'll think new,
    Things Neanderthals all knew.

  • Television

    Society's so moronic,
    Perhaps because TV's iconic,
    Giving strength bionic,
    To forces quite demonic,
    Which minds make catatonic.

  • Politicians

    Politicians in Westminster,
    Really are quite sinister,
For they often laws will maladminister,
So they can make their egos register.

  • Deceit

    Early on a Saturday night,
    The family got a fright,
    For their little terrier,
    Looking even dirtier,
    Did the house come in,
With in his mouth his sin,
As covered all in dirt and mud,
    And as well some blood,
    Next door's white rabbit,
    The dog did proudly exhibit.

    But alas the rabbit dead,
    Caused the family much dread,
For the neighbours, what would they say?
How should they the situation play?
    But honesty being always best,
They put their fears to rest,
And when neighbours did from their break return,
They all in spirit would be firm,
    Though when they did explain,
They'd try to save their neighbours pain.

But the little daughter with a cry,
Begged them all to tell a lie,
As neighbours in an angry fog,
    Would claim the killer dog,
Should be put by law to sleep,
    The future peace to keep.
But she did the little dog adore,
And could not this threat ignore,
So the family a lie must tell,
To keep her out of hell.
Then in her eye a frightened gleam,
    She began to scream.

Mum and Dad they did consult,
And the problem being so difficult,
The unhappy child was their excuse,
To dream up a subtle ruse,
So first they did the rabbit clean,
So the child would cease to scream,
And when they the fur shampooed,
    The little girl she cooed.
After which with looks all round quite sly,
They did the fur blow dry,
Then feeling that they did themselves disgrace,
They did the rabbit in the hutch replace.

But when the neighbours did return,
    They did expectations overturn,
As popping round for a visit,
    Bringing gifts quite exquisite,
The puzzled husband said: "It's a thing quite rum,
    Which me honestly does stun.
For before we went on our weekend holiday,
    Our daughter's rabbit passed away.
    So in the larger flowerbed,
    The rabbit really dead,
    We solemnly did bury,
    To save you smells unsavoury.
But this evening when we got home,
I off my feet was blown,
As lying in its hutch for all the world at peace,
    With its glossy fleece,
Our buried rabbit seemed prepared to go,
    To a super rabbit show."

  • Crime

    Papered money,
    Likes to be chummy,
    And like honey,
    Can both be sunny ,
    And quite runny.
But so many think it yummy,
    Much today is funny,
    For absence is unfunny,
    So bad for the tummy,
It can land you in life's dunny.

  • Money

    The problem I can't solve,
Is why it does the world revolve,
On coloured bits of paper bright.

    For greed adores the sight,
Of those who no matter what their plight,
    Willingly will show their might,
    And with anyone will fight,
    Believing they are right,
    To indulge in any sleight,
If they can gain some extra height.

For this coloured paper does excite,
    And causes such an appetite,
    Inside there's dynamite.,
    So many lose insight,
    And after that foresight,
    So any oversight
    Even if it's only slight,
    Will make the world uptight,
    Bringing on a night,
    Minus the moonlight,
And as the situation does evolve,
This coloured paper could society dissolve.

  • The Vegie Box

TV causes us to inward look,
    And put ourselves to book,
It shows us how we fail,
And why we ourselves should flail,
For as inside ourselves we run about,
We in every corner find a doubt,
So we daily have a gnaw,
    At every little flaw,
And as our dreams we cannot reach,
We feel we should ourselves impeach.

    But though it's evident,
    We once were confident,
    Of our inner-selves the sight,
    Gave us such a fright,
    We've become just shivering wrecks,
    Who no one now respects,
So though we once the world did rule,
A world which thought us then quite cool,
It has now for us disdain,
    And makes its feelings plain.

  • Wednesday & Saturday

When I don't win the lottery,
    I know misery,
    But denying my stupidity,
I go out and buy for me,
    More tickets in the lottery,
So I weekly can unhappy be.

    ---
At almost 14 million to 1 the lottery is Britain's monument
to the underlying imbicility of its population. But as the odds against winning the Euro Millions are 76 million to 1, it proves that Europeans are even stupider than we are.
